Lean Aspects of Transport Policy
Dr. Peter Huppertz for intelligent routing and "more vision" in transport policy

Cologne, February 2008

The Cologne Chamber of Industry and Commerce invited big-name representatives from the Cologne/Bonn region to a round table discussion of regional traffic policy with Mr. Oliver Wittke, Construction and Transport Minister for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. Dr. Peter Huppertz, General Manager and Partner of Peter Huppertz GmbH, was also at the discussion as a direct representative of the transport industry.

During the discussion, Minister Wittke agreed with many of the issues mentioned by
the industry representatives: Several actions are essential to make the region a more
effective logistics hub, such as keeping Cologne Bonn Airport open at night, using the Rhine River more for transportation, and expanding the Cologne beltway, Godorf Port
and the state railroad system.

As an extension of Lean Logistics, Dr. Peter Huppertz pointed out the need for a transport strategy with "more vision" – one that used leaner, more intelligent routing to eliminate traffic jams in the long term. The goal: to keep traffic flowing and conserve resources in the process.
