New location with optimised processes in line with "lean logistics"

The Huppertz Group has put a new logistics location into operation in Cologne-Bocklemünd where automotive components are to be synchronised, labelled and repackaged for automobile manufacturer Mazda by the Huppertz MSP competence centre. This is the second MSP location apart from the main site at Edsel-Ford-Street in Cologne-Feldkassel.
During the planning phase, Huppertz attached great importance to creating a location in line with the principle of "lean logistics": efficient, inexpensive processes as well as intelligent steering keep throughput times short while the convenient location on the A1 motorway translates into direct access to the European road network, much of which comes together in the Cologne region. Accordingly, swift access is guaranteed from
any direction.
"The project is indicative of the fact that in our capacity as a medium-sized service-provider, we comply with the high demands of a manufacturer operating on a global scale", explains Managing Director Dr.-Ing. Anja Huppertz. "We are constantly perfecting our logistics for the automotive industry. What’s more, we also take advantage of every opportunity to profitably deploy our expertise in this area for customers in other business areas, too."
The Huppertz MSP (Material Synchronisation and Packaging) business area is responsible for smooth material flows at the new location. Huppertz MSP specialises in spare parts logistics and packaging. The range of services includes quality monitoring, Data Management, packaging optimisation, development of packaging for new parts, handling packaging materials and Packaging Returns Management. Huppertz MSP is active at two locations where it manages a total of area of 17,000 square metres. Employees in this business area package more than 300,000 different original components originating from suppliers in almost 50 countries, and handle around 230,000 orders a year. Huppertz has set up a direct IT link to clients to facilitate data exchange.
