1897

Grocery dealer Peter Huppertz accepts a position in the area of railway collection and delivery in Mülheim am Rhein (which became part of Cologne in 1914) on 1st September, ensuring smooth transit of goods at the railway station. His wife Maria, née Lülsdorf, is in charge of the books and finances.

Their eldest son, Jean Huppertz, joins the business which continues to expand in the area of forwarding goods which are still exclusively transported by horse and cart.


1927

Motorization comes as a blessing in disguise - for Huppertz, too. Four Magirus fourwheeler pick-ups are acquired to share the workload with the company's horse-drawn carts.

1936

Thanks to a consession granted for long-distance goods transports, more extensive routes can now be undertaken by road instead of rail. The first long-distance destination is Oberursel which is served three times a week and is soon followed by Mannheim and Frankfurt.


1940

In the form of Peter Huppertz, the 3rd generation takes the helm. During World War sees operations beeing relocated to Odenthal and a concentration on the storage of furniture and household contents.


1956

Under the management of Peter and Renate Huppertz, new business areas are tapped and subsidiares established in Frankfurt, Hamburg and Nuremberg. Developed from the mid-1960s on, the Export/Import Department is intensively preoccupied with truck transport and shipping worldwide.

Huppertz opens an office at Cologne-Bonn Airport from where international air cargo is handled. Further subsidiaries are established in Berlin and Munich.

The vehicle fleet is expanded continiously during the 1970s. Located at the turnover site on Schanzenstrasse, the location includes a ramp store with hall and outside store with crane equipment.

Expanding business activities in the area of logistics for the automobile production and also in "In-Plant Logistics" for the chemical industry.


1991

Increased activity in the former East German states; expansion of the Transport and Turnover areas at the new location in Welfesholz in Saxony-Anhalt.


1996

"Huppertz Goes East" and establishes a new location in Kladno in the Czech Republic.

Establishment of the EDC (Export Distribution Center) in Cologne-Marsdorf from where finished parts for the automobile industry are handled and distributed worldwide.

Material Synchronisation & Packaging (MSP): Start of business activities of the MSC (Material Synchronisation Center) in Cologne-Ossendorf including a new division CP (Contract Packing) in the same year.

Estalishment of the Automotive Synchronisation Center (ASC) in Cologne-Niehl. From here distribution of finished parts for the automobile industry is handled worldwide.

Even closer to the customer; MSP business relocates from Cologne-Ossendorf to Cologne-Merkenich, straight ahead in front of the customer.

Development and implementation of the "Lean Logistics System" effecting all divisions within the Huppertz group.

"Lean" right from the start: Expansion of MSP business with increased storage capacity in Cologne-Bocklemund aims at a new field of spare parts logistics for another customer.


2008

In Cologne, the number 11 has always been of specific significance. That is why 700 Huppertz employees and customers celebrate the company's 111th anniversary with a big party.

"White giants" in the "black fleet". Huppertz extends its customer portfolio and distributes genuine parts via the "Mercedes-Benz-Express". In the first year of this new service, Huppertz achieves 1st and 2nd place in the customer's transport audit.




2011

New customer, new location: Huppertz takes over the new logistics center VLK ("Verpackungslogistik Kassel") on February 1st, 2011. At the Kassel site, 450 employees take care of packaging, order picking and warehousing of Original Parts from Volkswagen AG.
